Sargassum is a kind of brown algae. It grows in the low tide zone of the rock or the rock with the depth of 2 meters to 3 meters. There are 250 species, most of which are warm water species, widely distributed in warm water especially in India, Western Pacific and Australia. China is one of the main producing areas of Sargassum with sixty species. It is abundant in the coastal areas of Guangdong and Guangxi, especially Hainan Island and Weizhou Island.
